If you have the means I highly suggest it. It's like rallying without all the organization.
I know A lot of my posts talk about how much I love my 1991 Honda Civic, but I'll mention it one more time, because I feel like you guys will tolerate it.
I love my 1991 Honda Civic. This car has been in my life since 2010 as a DD, a back up car, and as a toy. In June of 2012 it was rear ended totaled out, and to far gone to be driven on the road. BUT she still lives. After the Accident I drove it out to my father in laws land and that's where she'll stay until we A hit a tree and competently destroy her, or B. her old burner, I mean motor, decides to blow... again. The first one blew at 234,500 when I ran it dry(ouch) At that point I had been putting 1 quote of oil every 300 miles or so.
Any who here's a shitty video of me rallying around a field in a 1.5l Civic with just headers.
We actually have a pretty great track to play with. Me, my bro in law, and a few other buddies even started doing time trails, and getting quicker and quicker, doing ride along with each other and talking about how we could hit corner X a little faster.
So If you have access to a place to drive, and a few awesome friends, go buy a beat up manual trans car. Power isn't important, especially on dirt, mud, and grass, FWD is still fun. The best part is it doesn't matter if it's not road worthy, or it needs a new battery your just gonna go beat the snot out of it anyway.
As a car guy who had never had access to an environment where I could go all out in a car this is the best thing I've ever had. After a good day of flying around on the dirt I drive like grampa on the street.
Here's a pic of the car and my old Accord. just about everything is rigged and zip tied . it needs a jump box to start cuz it doesn't hold a charge, but it's fun and reliable. It sat all winter and yesterday we went out jumped it, and it fired up like it was happy to see me. We had to bust loose one of the rear drums but that took all of five minutes. Now we just have to wait for the track to dry up.
and here's the vid. I made it with a cheap phone zip tied to the passenger head rest cuz no one was else home, but it's still amusing to me. The best part is at 1:00-1:04 when I come around a 100 degree left hander we call the valley, and the car is pointed right into the trees coming out of the corner. and at the last corner when I mowed a few sunflowers.
If you don't want to watch a crappy low quality video than don't watch it. :P Hopefully some time this summer we'll get some GOOD footage of this beast in action.

I love the way this thing sounds. I forgot for a second that you had said open headers and was very confused why a civic would sound like that haha

I learned how to drive through field bombing! I used to drive a K car around my grandmother's 7 acres of land. I also had an Escort and a Hyundai Excel around my ATV track behind my dad's house. Great times

That looks awesome! I'd be slightly concerned about the condition of the windshield though.

Haha yeah. This car seems to hate windshields. this is the fourth on I've put on it. One broke when my buddy fell one it, one when the hood flew open on it, and another when I hit a deer. We've talked about taking it out entirely, but never have. Before we do I'd need to cut the seat down or buy a racing seat cuz right now I can't drive this car while wearing a helmet (I'm 6'2"), and it gets to dusty at speed to drive with no windshield and no helmet. As it is, on dry days, you have to use a dust mask, or handkerchief to cover your mouth so you aren't eating dirt the whole time.

Haha, how about a plexiglass windshield?
I'd just get a low bucket seat from somewhere, Miata?

It's not illegal to drive a vehicle like an idiot on your own private land. I believe he has permission of the landowner for this.

Plexigalls seems like a good option since this car never needs to be road legal again. As for the seat I'll probly cut out the seat mounts and bolt the seat right to the floor pan with some 1/4" steel welded to it for strength. Or I could just cut the roof off but that wouldn't really solve anything, and would make this already unsafe car ever more deadly.

Those all great cars to field bomb. lol We're sort of looking for something RWD just for laughs, but we also want a manual trans, and a price tag around 0.00$
